• Week 1 – Basic principles
• Week 2 – CAA 1:500,000 charts
• Week 3 – Using the CRP-1 circular
slide rule
• Week 4 – Route planning
• Week 5 – Practice exam paper
• Week 6 – Radio navigation (VOR, VDF,
DME, radar)
• Week 7 – Mentally deduced reckoning

Equipment required -
1.
Navigation computer ( Pooleys CRP-1 or equivalent)
2. Ruler with a 1:500,000 scale on it
3. Protractor for measuring angles
4. Black grease pencils for marking maps
5. Electronic Calculator ( Casio or similar )
6. CAA 1:500,000 chart of Southern England
7. Navigation text book (Air Pilot Manual or AFE)
